Good Grief

Dan Levy, lately of Schitt’s Creek fame, makes his feature directorial debut with Good Grief, which he also wrote and stars in. The film sees Levy play a man dealing with the unexpected death of his husband by heading to Paris with two friends. Luke Evans, Ruth Negga, and Himesh Patel also star.

Self Reliance

Release date: January 12
Where: Hulu

What if you could win a million dollars by playing a game? What if the game was a dark web reality show about hunting, and you’re the target? Would you say yes? Hulu’s newest comedy brings that premise to life, and it is giving us major Game Night vibes (another excellent comedy!). Jake Johnson writes, directs, and stars, joined by Andy Samberg, Anna Kendrick, Christopher Lloyd, and more.

Killers of the Flower Moon

Release date: January 12
Where: Apple TV+

Martin Scorsese‘s latest and highly acclaimed epic finally makes it to streaming. Based on the book of the same name, the film follows a spate of murders fueled by oil and greed that rocked the Osage Nation. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jesse Plemons, Robert DeNiro, and a much-raved performance by Lily Gladstone.

The Kitchen

Release date: January 19
Where: Netflix

Another actor making his directorial debut this month? Daniel Kaluuya, alongside Kibwe Tavares. The Kitchen is set in a dystopian London, where the inequality gap has been stretched to its limits.

The Traitors UK

Reality TV fans love The Traitors, and for good reason! This murder-mystery-themed series sees a group of strangers come together in a castle and cooperate in missions to increase the size of the prize pot. But there’s a twist: Some contestants are “Traitors,” and their goal is to pick off innocent “Faithful” participants to increase their chances of winning.

Echo

Release date: January 9
Where: Disney Plus

The first show under the new Marvel Spotlight label is a spinoff of the 2021 series Hawkeye. Echo is the origin story of the deaf Cheyenne hero Echo, also known as Maya Lopez. Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil will also appear in the series. All episodes stream at the same time. 

Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli

Netflix’s comedy specials are sometimes a hotbed of drama, but that never stops the streamer from releasing more. This time, Netflix is partnering with Pete Davidson again following his successful 2020 special Alive From New York. For his new special, the star is said to touch on “what it means to grow up and turn 30, discussing love, life, and living in the woods.” 

Criminal Record

Apple’s newest series stars Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo as detectives battling for control of a high-stakes murder investigation in London. The series is created by Paul Rutman; two episodes stream for the premiere, with the rest dropping weekly.

Ted

Release date: January 11

Seth MacFarlane’s 2012 hit movie Ted is getting the prequel treatment as a series for Peacock. MacFarlane will return to voice the foul-mouthed bear while Max Burkholder plays Ted’s owner, 16-year-old John Bennett. All episodes will be available for binge-watch. 

Bluey

New episodes of the hit children’s animated show stream today. Acclaimed for its disarming humor, high-quality animation, and emphasis on imaginative play. True Detective: Night Country

True Detective is finally back after a five-year break! Season four is set in Alaska and follows detectives, played by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, as they investigate the sudden disappearance of scientists working at an Arctic research facility. True Detective: Night Country is the first of the series not to come from series creator Nic Pizzolatto (though he is executive producing), with writer-director Issa Lopez helming instead.

With the series Death and Other Details, Hulu is getting in on the murder-mystery craze. Detective Rufus Cotesworth, played by Mandy Patinkin, investigates a murder on a luxury Mediterranean cruise ship. If you’re a Knives Out or Poker Face fan, keep this on your radar.

The Woman in the Wall

Where: Paramount Plus with Showtime

This gripping thriller set in Ireland follows a woman, played by Ruth Wilson, who wakes up to find a dead body in her house with no knowledge of how it got there or who the dead person is. The series aired in the UK back in August and is making its way across the Atlantic this month.

The Bachelor

Romance-driven drama is back with the 28th season of The Bachelor! This time, The Bachelorette runner-up Joey Graziadei, 28, will be looking for his life-long partner on the show. The contestants include a pair of sisters and an actress.
