This tutorial will show you how to set up the ExpressVPN app on your Amazon Fire TV Stick or Fire TV.

The ExpressVPN app is compatible with:

  • Fire TV: All versions
  • Fire TV Stick: 2nd generation and above
Important: If you want to stream Prime Video content on your Amazon device, pick a server location that matches your Amazon account. Your Amazon country setting can be found under Your Account > Your Content and Devices > Preferences > Country/Region.

Download the ExpressVPN app

Important: If you cannot access the Amazon Appstore, or you cannot find the app there, you can sideload the ExpressVPN app to your Fire device.

On your Fire device, go to "Search" icon.. Enter ExpressVPN.

Enter "ExpressVPN."

Select ExpressVPN.

Select "ExpressVPN."

Important: If you cannot find the ExpressVPN app on the Amazon Appstore, sideload the ExpressVPN app to your Fire device.

Select Download.

Select “Download.”

Select Open.

Proceed to activating the ExpressVPN app.

Important: Follow the steps below to sideload the ExpressVPN app APK only if the ExpressVPN app is not available to download directly to your Fire device.

Note: ExpressVPN is not affiliated with any third-party apps.

On your Fire device, go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options.

Important: Developer Options might not be available on your Fire TV device by default. To enable Developer Options:

  1. Go to My Fire TV > About.
  2. Select the first option in the list. This should be the name of your Fire TV device.
  3. Press the Select button on your Fire TV remote seven times.

You should now see a message saying you’re already a developer. You can now access Developer Options from My Fire TV.

Toggle Apps from Unknown Sources on.

Toggle "Apps from Unknown Sources” on.

On the main menu, go to "Search" icon.. Enter Downloader.

Select Download.

Select "Download' to get the Downloader app.

Select Allow to give Downloader access to your photos, media, and files.

Select "Allow" to allow Downloader to access photos, media and files.

Select OK to proceed.

Enter the URL of the ExpressVPN APK installer, which is expressvpn.com/latest/android. Select Go.

Select Install to complete the installation.

Set up the ExpressVPN app

Select Sign In.

Select “Sign In.”

There are three ways you can sign in.

Sign in with QR code

  1. Scan the QR code with your smartphone to sign in.
  2. Enter the email and password for your ExpressVPN account. Tap Sign In.
  3. Tap Confirm.
Important: If the option to scan the QR code does not appear, go toSettings icon.> Applications > Manage Installed Applications > ExpressVPN > Clear data > OK. Once you have cleared the stored data, relaunch the ExpressVPN app. The QR code should now be visible.
Sign in with code

  1. On a separate device from your TV, visit auth.expressvpn.com/activate
  2. Enter the 8-character code displayed on your TV.
  3. Select Continue.
  4. Confirm your 8-character code.
  5. Enter the email and password for your ExpressVPN account. Select Sign In.


Sign in with remote

  1. Select Sign In with Remote.
  2. Enter the email and password for your ExpressVPN account. Select Sign In.

Select “Sign In.”

Select OK.

To set up your VPN, select "OK."

When asked to accept ExpressVPN’s connection request, select OK.

Select “OK.”

The app will ask if you would like to share anonymous information to help make ExpressVPN faster and more reliable. Select your preference to continue.

Select your preference for helping improve ExpressVPN.

Connect to a server location

To connect to a server location, select On button.. By default, ExpressVPN will suggest a Smart Location, the location that provides you with the optimal experience.

To connect, select the On Button.

Once you see the “Connected” message, you can begin using the internet with added privacy and security.

Disconnect from a server location

To disconnect from a server location, select On button. .

To disconnect, select the On Button.

You will see the message, “Not connected.”

Choose a different server location

To choose a different server location, select More icon..

Select the Location Picker.

By default, you will see two tabs, RECOMMENDED and ALL LOCATIONS.

The "Recommended" tab shows you ExpressVPN’s top picks for you.

To connect to a location, select it with your remote. You can also add a location to your list of favorites by holding the “select” button on the location. Your favorite locations will be added in a tab labeled FAVORITES.

You can access your favorite locations in the "Favorites" tab.

Uninstall ExpressVPN from your Fire device

  1. On your Fire device, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
  2. Scroll down the list to find ExpressVPN.
  3. Select Uninstall > Uninstall.

The app is now removed from your Fire device.

Cast or mirror from your device to Amazon Fire

Casting and mirroring are wireless technologies that allow you to stream content from your device to a TV with Amazon Fire TV.

If you want to stream from your device (with VPN) to a TV via your Amazon Fire TV, here are the compatible casting and mirroring options:

(It is not possible to cast or mirror content from iOS or macOS to your Amazon Fire TV.)

Alternatively, you can connect your Amazon Fire TV to a VPN router, a manually configured VPN, or a virtual VPN router. Under this option, you do not need to cast or mirror content from your device to your Amazon Fire TV. You simply need a VPN-connected Amazon Fire TV to stream the content.
